The Walking Dead #127 (Spoilers)

Robert Kirkman promised that issue #127 would be a completely new beginning. And it is. Just not how I expected. Well, a little. So All Out War's conclusion, I thought, was weak. Personally, I thought it was monumentally disappointing, with the build up and hype surrounding it, it was as terrible a finale as Walking Dead Season 3's lame ass finale. I ranked it up there with the Age of Ultron mini series final book. I was so pissed at that, anyways... I know there are people who loved it to death and that's fine I guess. I don't expect them to buy into my opinion and I won't force it. And vice versa.

So with a New Beginning, Kirkman and Adlard delivers pretty much a double issue. We're immediately introduced to new characters who are hiding from a monstrous hoard of zombies. They're then saved by a samurai looking dude who later turns out to be Jesus. Yeah. I really didn't recognize him. His hair is up in a bun and he has this armor on, I mean it's cool but I didn't recognize him.

This issue felt really weird because we don't see Rick until about five to ten pages in (I already don't remember, not that it was bad but, my memory sucks with those things). So Jesus takes this new group back to Alexandria, which seems and looks to be doing really damn good. When we first see Rick his head is shaved and he has a bushy beard. Very strange seeing Rick like this. He has a contraption that acts as a prosthetic limb that seems to work well. He even uses a cane because his leg is so bad (thanks Negan).

Seeing Rick hobble around and be physically useless is horrible! Shit. We've seen him be such a great character... even though he probably couldn't beat up Carl. Hey, let's face it. Whenever Rick fights, comic or tv show, he gets his ass handed to him. Anyways... He doesn't fuck with the zombies anymore. He runs Alexandria. He's the leader and he overlooks everything from building to agriculture to deploying men here and there for whatever purpose. It's interesting but... you have to feel bad for the guy being so unable physically.

So Rick takes this new group in and I'm sure they'll play a big part in upcoming issues, especially Magna (duh) and Kelly. This is two years after the end of All Out War too. So when we see Carl he's older looking and has long hair. He even has chats in the candle light..... with Negan. Negan, who is bearded with long hair too sits in his cell, presumably, at least it's how I took it, in Rick's basement. I thought I was the only one who felt that but Trevschan, the best Walking Dead videos on YouTube, said the same thing. And yes, Carl still wants to kill Negan.

Overall I don't know how I feel about this. I didn't think it was great and it didn't suck but... I don't know. It was definitely strange seeing Rick this way. I mean it certainly is a new beginning with Rick being sidelined for all physical duties completely. No Michonne this issue either. I assume she's with Ezekiel.  I really like how Kirkman/Adlard shows that the war definitely took its toll on the participants. Negan didn't even drop an F-Bomb! So... so far, with Rick leading the rebuilding of society, they're on the right track and seem to be doing really well with little to no zombie attacks. I wasn't expecting to see Negan nor the huge time jump. I was sure Kirkman wasn't going to go that route but he did. As usual, Kirkman leaves us salivating for future issues.... damn you.
