The Muppets

Short review for an awesome flick

Jason Segel plays Gary, and he and his muppet brother Walter are very close. Close enough that Gary decides to take Walt along on a trip that should be just Gary and his fiancee. So they go on a trip and visit the old Muppet Theater and it's there they find out the evil Chris Cooper is buying it to tear it down and drill for oil (naturally! sounds like classic Muppets!). They decide to visit Kermit and hatch a plan to raise $10 million to take back Muppet Theater. That's basically the story.

I had pretty high expectations coming into this flick. I was a huge Muppet fan as a kid in the 80s. By the time the credits rolled I was incredibly impressed. I thought the movie was amazing. The newest muppet Walter was actually interesting. I assumed the movie would rock and he'd be annoying and lame but he wasn't. And the fact that Jason Segel isn't coming back as writer/actor is going to seriously hurt the sequel. Segel is a funny dude and obviously his writing skills helped out as well. Then again maybe they can easily replace him, who knows? Chances are it won't be as good as this one. This Muppet movie is almost as good as the original but definitely better than the rest.

All the Muppets are here in some capacity as well as all the awesome celebrity cameos you'd expect. The puppeteering is as you'd expect too: flawless. The most impressive feet however is the fact that the voice actors pretty much nail it and is as close as we'll ever get to hearing Jim Henson again. And just in case you were wondering... Yes, Mahna Mahna is in it. And it's awesome.

Fan-Gasm Score:
The Muppets is easily a 5-Star movie. No doubt.
